How to plan whole-home storage? Allocate cabinets by items, frequency, and traffic flow
Effective whole-home storage should start from a household item inventory, usage frequency, and daily traffic flow patterns, then determine cabinet assignments for the entryway, living room, dining room, bedroom, walk-in closet, and laundry area.

Start with an item inventory
Categorize by shoes and bags, clothing, books, cleaning tools, food, small appliances, luggage, and seasonal items. Estimate quantities, sizes, and future growth to avoid designing cabinets solely based on empty wall space.
Then divide zones by frequency and traffic flow
Place frequently used items at comfortable heights and near their point of use. Reserve upper cabinets, deep storage, or dedicated storage areas for rarely used and large items. Entryway, sideboard, laundry, and bedroom storage should minimize back-and-forth carrying.
Maintain flexibility and easy maintenance
Adjustable shelves, flexible hanging options, pre-wired outlets, and ventilation and maintenance access accommodate long-term changes. When communicating with ALLVS or other whole-home customization designers, verify internal structures using actual item dimensions.
